There’s a new man in my life…
Yes, there’s a new man in my life, and he’s already stolen my heart. On Tuesday, May 6th, we joyfully welcomed Roscoe James into the world. Weighing 6 pounds, 11 ounces, this precious little bundle has made a big impact on our family’s lives in the most beautiful way. Our family is forever changed and infinitely enriched by his presence. He’s made my daughter a first-time mom and me a first-time grandparent – his Lulu!!
As we stand on the eve of Mother’s Day, it feels only fitting to pay tribute today with a reflection on my own mother. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy lives on through the wisdom she shared, the guidance she offered, and the example she set and instilled in me, even when I didn’t realize the impact it would later have on me.
When people talk about leadership, they often think of titles, power, or big moments in the spotlight. But the greatest leaders are often the ones who don’t seek attention. They just show up, day after day, making lives better wherever they go. That’s exactly who my mother was.
She has been many things over the years: a military spouse, a community volunteer, a faithful church member, and most importantly, a mentor to so many. Through every season of her life, she led with grace, strength, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. My mother may not have a trophy case or a string of titles after her name, but her legacy lives on in the lives she touched. She led by example, spoke with compassion, and mentored with intention. In every community she’s been part of, she has left it better than she found it — a quality I strive to carry forward in my own life and pass on to my children.
Just as my mother led by example in every role she took on, I strive to carry that same spirit of service and leadership in my own journey with NCRA. Serving on our Board has allowed me to mentor court reporting students and professionals, advocate for our industry, and help shape the future of our association. It’s been a privilege to give back to a field that has given so much to me and to do so with the values my mother instilled in me: commitment, compassion, and the courage to lead with purpose.
