NCRA Nominations and Elections

Happy Derby Day!!  As we all anticipate mint juleps and the big race later today, I want to talk about another race – the NCRA Vice Presidential election.

If you’re not familiar with the election process, I hope you’ll stay with me for just a few minutes so that I can inform you on the process and what has taken place thus far this year and also to give a little history of what’s taken place in our recent past.

One of NCRA’s committees is the Nominating Committee.  This committee plays a very important role in vetting, interviewing, and selecting the best choices to fill the roles of our directors.  It’s this procedure that ensures a candidate has been truthful, is qualified, and is fit to serve these vital positions.

This year, my opponent chose a different path by opting out of the traditional nominating process and instead secured a place on the ballot through a petition supported by 100 member signatures—a process that is entirely permitted under our current policies. Once the Nominating Committee presents its slate of officers for the upcoming year, there is a 60-day window during which any member may pursue a spot on the ballot by collecting the required signatures and submitting character letters.

In this election, the outcome carries significant weight for me. If I do not earn the confidence and support of the membership, it marks the conclusion of a 13-year leadership journey—one shaped by dedication to committee initiatives, personal growth as a board member, and meaningful contributions through the Court Reporters Advisory Group. On the other hand, should I be elected, my opponent will continue in her current role as director.

I recently posted on social media that “Leadership isn't just about stepping in or stepping up. It's about building on the work that’s already been done and seeing it through with accountability.”

As I look at our current board makeup, we are a “young” board with many still finding their voice.  With board turnover in recent years — with many one-year, two-year terms being filled – we are lacking continuity and longevity, which are two very important aspects to any association, especially one the size of NCRA.  Experienced board members carry valuable association memory, a vital element that helps guide and inform future decisions. When we lose that continuity, we risk losing progress and repeating mistakes.

Below are some key dates and a link to NCRA’s Election Center. Make sure you’re informed before casting your vote! Take the time to review both candidates’ résumés, questionnaire responses, and digital brochures. I trust you will recognize the meaningful contributions we each bring to the board and will join me in advocating for continuity, stability, and sustained progress in our governance.

By voting for me, you ensure that both candidates remain in service—combining our distinct strengths to form a more balanced, effective board. Together, we can deliver strong, united leadership that puts NCRA’s mission and its members first.

Thank you for taking the time to read my message!
